An interesting return walk today from Halkirk to Broubster to see a deserted village. Broubster Village was a clearance village. Built in 1839 for the families cleared from their homes on nearby farms farms to allow sheep grazing. There are 12 small houses and despite being overgrown, traces of the small gardens that came with the houses can still be found underfoot. The last house to be occupied was vacated in 1959. The only rain of the day coincided with my arrival at the village and stopped as I left.
