Georgemas Junction

A glorious winters day for this walk. A very gentle breeze. I took the B874 out of Halkirk, through the village and out to the level crossing, passing the WW2 Hoy Military Fuel storage tanks which were built to provide aircraft fuel for Castletown, Wick and Skitten airfields. The views from here are wide and extensive with Morven and Maiden Pap, the highest hills in Caithness, standing proud to the south. After a short walk alomg the wide verges of the A9 I reached the Sibster forest walk and then to Georgemas Junction just as the train bound for Inverness arrived. After I sat for a while by the small waterfall in Sibster with a packed lunch, enjoying the warmth of the early afternoon sun. I returned home by the same route.
