A coastal walk on the Dunnet Head peninsular. I took the bus to Brough to walk to Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on the UK mainland, following a combination of road and coastal path. Like John O’Groats, Dunnet Head is on the NC500 route (Scotlands answer to Route 66) and was full of camper vans. Leaving the crowded Dunnet Head, I followed the coastal path to Dunnet village in time for the last bus back to Thurso. A good day for walking, temperatures around 17 degs and a stiff breeze. Constantly changeing skies. Lots of ups and downs and boggy terrain. A few hill lochs, beautiful sandy beaches, spectacular coastline and magnificent views across the Pentland Firth to the Orkney Islands.
